Interaction Design Practice
Indiana University, Luddy School of Informatics · Bloomington, IN · Faculty supervisor: Professor Marty Siegel
Mentored three student teams through design projects sponsored by companies like Google and Meta.
A course that works like a design studio
Interaction Design Practice (I-441) simulated real-world design work. Through Professor Marty Siegel’s connections, companies like Google, Meta, Microsoft, Adobe and Roblox sponsored projects, and their designers brought the briefs to students.
Each semester ran three sponsored projects, and teams took each one from research to a final presentation in front of the sponsors.
Mentoring three teams
As a TA, I was assigned to one team for each project, so I worked with three different teams across the semester.
My job was to be their mentor and guide through the design process, from early iterations all the way to the final presentation.
Critique, live and written
At the end of each project, I synthesized every team’s work and gave critiques twice: live during the presentations, and afterward in a written document the students could come back to.
The goal was feedback they could act on, not just a grade.
Feedback that builds project to project
I also created peer review forms, analyzed the responses using AI, and sent each student an anonymous feedback packet after every project.
By the third project, students had packets from all three and could see how they had progressed, regressed or flatlined as teammates over the semester. At the end, I helped determine the grades students received.
